The addition of harissa paste gives this homemade salad dressing an incredible flavor twist. It is creamy and cooling but with a little kick of sweet smoky spice. If you enjoy chipotle ranch, this is a must try! Perfect for salads, bowls, burgers and wraps.
If you love strong flavors and creamy salad dressings, this one is for you! We are making a simple ranch dressing and mixing a little harissa paste in, and we are putting it on everything we can find.
If you have tried chipotle ranch, you will already know how nicely a smoky sweet flavor overlays with cooling ranch dressing. This recipe gives you a very similar effect, but with the unique flavor of harissa instead. You can use plain, smoked or rose harissa – they will all be amazing in their own way!
This dressing is incredibly versatile and can be used wherever you would normally use ranch (like in a salad or a dip for veggies) or you could lean towards its more global fusion flavor and experiment with it as a topping for a grain bowl, with falafel, as part of a mezze spread, etc.
Ingredient Substitutions
- You are welcome to replace the sour cream with greek yogurt for a lighter result.
- If you don’t want to use mayonnaise, use additional sour cream instead, but add 1 tablespoon of olive oil for richness.
- If you want to use fresh dill or parsley instead of dried, use 1 tablespoon – in this case you would want to use a blender to mix the sauce.
- You can swap the apple cider vinegar for lemon juice or red wine vinegar if you wish.
