Here we are again, another year gone by! They don’t lie about how much faster the years pass by when you get older, that is for sure. This has been a fairly uneventful year for our family (which is no bad thing); the biggest news is that we welcomed a new kitten to the family, Miss Fiona Sparkle ✨. So I now have someone to keep me company during the day and mess up my photoshoot scenes, pulling linens away from the table and whatnot.

Most Popular Recipes of 2023

My most popular recipes tend to be older faves like the eternally loved One Pot Pasta with Tomato & Mascarpone Sauce and the Green Lentil Dal Makhani, but these are the recipes I published this year which are already becoming fast favorites:

Dishoom Dal in the Slow Cooker

I hacked the official Dishoom dal recipe to be made easily at home in a slow cooker. This was quite an effort, with lots of tests, but it is now becoming one of my more popular recipes. Definitely worthwhile!

Roasted Tomato & Mascarpone Gnocchi

My fave recipes to share will always be easy delicious dinners, and this one has proven to be super popular!

Pie Crust Pizza (with Shortcrust Pastry)

My daughter’s first recipe! She asked me to share her pie crust / shortcrust pastry pizza (which was born out of a need to use up a small amount of pastry and soon became her favorite pizza). These days no one wants to waste food, so finding smart solutions for leftovers is bound to be a winner, and lots of people have now had a look at this pizza recipe. And Odette now wants a higher cut of my ad revenue. Ha.

Special mentions to:

My Personal Favorites of 2023

Roasted Broccoli Avocado Pasta

This is one of those recipes that doesn’t look like much but is shockingly good when you factor in how low effort and low budget it is. If you’re planning to do Veganuary, this is a great dinner to try.

Hot Honey Sage Smashed Potatoes

These potatoes are so over the top and decadent, dripping in butter, hot honey and crispy sage – you can’t fail to love them.

Cheesy Scrambled Eggs with Honey Glazed Tomatoes & Cilantro

I rarely do breakfast recipes (and in any case I made this for dinner, not breakfast) but these eggs are something special. Make them any time of day. Just make them.

Plans for 2024

Next year I’d like to bulk out my vegetarian recipes for beginners, and offer more vegetarian versions of traditional dishes. I am also hoping to do more bean recipes, because I feel like beans are having a moment 🤔. As ever, please comment or email me with any suggestions!

Our Christmas Menu

It’s just the four of us for Christmas this year, so we can be a little non-traditional, make the things our kids are most likely to eat, and keep it fairly simple. Our Christmas dinner line up is…

  • Roasted Tomato Quiche – but with a pastry crust because it’s Christmas! This was requested by my daughter, so even though I have a more festive quiche recipe up my sleeve, tomatoes are the one veggie she embraces so that’s what we’re doing!
  • Hot Honey Sage Smashed Potatoes – some with regular honey for the kids.
  • Christmas Broccoli and one of those packets of ready prepared mixed greens with fancy butter from Tesco to bulk out the veggie side of things.
  • Easy Sweet Potato Mac & Cheese for the kids to fill up on if they don’t end up loving the rest.
  • Nigella’s Nutella cheesecake for dessert. I make this most years! Desserts can overwhelm me (what do you mean everything has to be accurately measured?!?!?) but this is an insanely easy no-bake recipe that anyone can master.

Thank You!

None of this would be possible without your support, so thank you for being here, for entrusting your meals to me, and for the feedback you take the time to give. I know the ads can be a lot, but complaints are extremely rare here and I appreciate your understanding.
